Hiking Arrangements

This was a collaborative design with a hiking buddy. And we didn't use tools!

The oaks with the lime green and yellow lichen covering it was so inspiring. It was as though the whole meadow color-coordinated.

San Luis Obispo, CA has some of the most beautiful hikes around. And I find that when I do make myself get out of the house to enjoy some of the natural beauty just outside my door, I do get inspired to create. I think that it's really important for those of us that have creative passion within spend this time for ourselves to really find how to translate our expressions from inside to material objects that perhaps others can understand and relate to. The above arrangement (though difficult to see its complexity against the dry creek bed) was a collaborative design with a hiking buddy. And we didn't use tools! Who knows, maybe I was just trying to be the next Andy Goldsworthy :)

Ferns, tulips, and vines create an amazingly elegant mixture of textures in an architectually pleasing way

Tea & Tulips

Simple and elegant: Tulip design with candles for a sweet afternoon tea.

Low-enough to pass the tea and cream, the elegant tulip arrangement makes conversation easy and does not block any of your guests.

Lily Entrypiece

Beautiful entrypiece made in an urn pedistal with lilies and grevillea

The lighting was a little off, so I moved the piece into an adjoining room to hopefully photograph the piece better. Too bad, I should definitely get a photobox so I can correct the lighting. With this yellowy wash you can't respect the amazing hue of these lilies with the gladiolus and grevillea

Happy Easter

Say "Happy Easter" with non-traditional colors. I did use pastels, but elaborated on these colors to use their metallic and pearlescent hues as well.

The ceramic pots are made by Brie Ruais, www.brieruais.com, and are used in a decorative display or can be separated and used throughout the Easter event venue!

Since I was working with several different flowers, most of them pretty small, I clustered them to get more of a pop of color, but also to put the shapes of the flowers together like little clusters of colored eggs in the arrangements.

Several textures also make the arrangements interesting - whether floral textures or the textures in the vessels themselves.

Conversation Pieces

My clients had a small dinner get-together and they wanted smaller arrangements that would not impede the conversation. So we called this one "Conversation Pieces". They are low enough to not get in the way of talking to your neighbor across the table, as well as passing food and drink around the table. I really loved the color scheme we went for-lots of golds and oranges with the forsythia and freesia.
