Pentecost Sunday

We were really pleased with how well they turned out and commanded attention in such a beautiful place.

Come see our arrangements! They will be up for the Pentecost Sunday mass, and through the middle of the week. Old Mission Church, San Luis Obispo, CA

Preparing Pentecost Arrangements

The finished product!

Protea that looks like a firecracker!

Kangaroo Paw, Canna

Roses

Gladiolus and craspedia

It looks like it's smoldering, especially with the oranges from the birds of paradise, apricot roses, and carex 'Prairie Fire' ornamental grass.

We pulled colors through the arrangement that may not be "traditional". We all fell in love with the Red/Burgandy Japanese Maple foliage. One way we made it work in the design was to also use the purple canna and birds of paradise to pull the color of the maple foliage throughout the piece. Sometimes you have to go for it if you want to make an impression!

Desiree, lead designer on this project, created such a beautiful design that was full of fire and texture!

A Little Technique Called: Pave

Pave is a really simple technique usually done in a shallow/low container with the blooms or plant material barely showing above the container lip and just coming over the container lip along the edges. The container can be filled with foam or water. If a beginner, I would start with foam. But really just using water is not hard either as long as you have cushion-like flowers (mums, asters, ranunculus, strawflowers, hellebore, etc.) and as long as you cut the stems relatively short.

Container shape and size is up to the artist. And of course, the pattern and other techniques that can be thrown in, make this technique so versatile.

voila!
